“Commissioned by Sasha Waltz for her 3-hour epic choreography “EΞΟΔΟΣ I Exodos”, “Running On Emptiness” is composed out of moving architectural structures
and their echoing resonances. Back in 2012, we had placed 147 contact sensors on all surfaces inside and outside of the Berghain club in Berlin:
concrete walls, steel staircases, water pipes, ventilation tunnels, air ducts, metal frames, ... mapping out the whole structure
and progressively recording the entire movement of the building under the impact of the music, with the intention of exposing its silent voice.
This composition reflects the sense of a space that is left behind in between the margins.” - Stephan Crasneanscki & Simone Merli
